Canadian Federation of Biological Societies Questionnaire: Updated: September 13, 05 Are Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Companies in Canada Meeting
their Requirements for Highly Qualified Personnel? Jump to: QuestionaireThe Canadian Federation of Biological Societies (CFBS) promotes research and development in the biological sciences by speaking for a number of LIFE SCIENCE Societies with one voice to PARLIAMENTARIANS and SENIOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. The purpose of this questionnaire is to determine the annual requirements of Canada’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies for newly graduated highly qualified personnel (HQP) trained in biological sciences and whether these requirements are being met. The personnel may be university graduates at the BSc., MSc., or PhD. levels. The biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries in Canada are growing. The number of biotechnology companies alone has increased by 76% since 1997 (The Daily 2004). Although the number of biotechnology firms is growing, the number of employees has remained stable since 2001 at approximately 12 000 people (The Daily 2004). Is your company meeting its requirements for the number of new highly
qualified recruits? Is more funding needed to promote and expand university
and graduate training programs to feed growth in the industry? Please
help the CFBS stay informed about current issues in the biotechnology
and pharmaceutical sectors by answering the following questions.
de 76% depuis 1997 « The Daily 2004).
